Last Night's "Sleep"

Melissa at the Wild Nursling has described just about exactly how my last few nights (or even weeks) of sleep have been.

Here is a rendition of last night:
Get June to sleep about 7:30. The lengthening evenings are making this more difficult.

Stay awake a couple more hours, homework, watching Battlestar with Adam on the computer.

Crawl into bed at 10:30. Nurse. Adam falls instantly asleep. I lay and feel my achy head and sore throat. Listen to Adam snore. Wake him up at 11:35 and complain, "You are snoring so loud I can't sleep." No response out of him, but somehow he manages control over his snores all night long after that (dear man) and they are no longer loud or even constant.

June wakes up to nurse 6 times between 10:30 and 12:45. I fall asleep.

3:30 am. June cries out as if in pain. We nurse.

4ish. Pain cry. Repeat.

5:20. Poor little miserable baby is crying again. I nurse. We sleep. Oh! But I am cold. I pull up the covers balled up not even at the foot of the bed. On the floor. Kitty comes into the room and meows. I pull covers towards me stretching backwards to that blissful state of ... June cries out, "Kitty!" I think, "Oh shit. Well, maybe if I'm lucky she'll sleep more." I keep moving, repositioning backwards and my elbow goes - BAM!

Got June in the forehead I think. But not too hard. It happened really fast and at the last second I realized she was probably sitting up.

She still cried and screamed in pain. Nursed for like two minutes and then was AWAKE.

And this flippin' cold or these allergies or whatever has been buggin' me can just shove off already. Argh.

  1. I'm so sorry you didn't get any sleep last night. I know that's tough. My daughter was about the same age as June while I was finishing up school and it always felt like when I needed sleep the most, those were the nights I got the least amount of it. I hope you feel better soon- allergies are no fun.

  2. Glad to know I'm not alone! Yeah, I can't decide which is worse - getting no sleep on nights I have to wake up at 5:45 am for work or getting no sleep on the nights when I should technically be able to sleep in, but the Bean is so excited to wake up and find me actually there that she won't leave my side to go downstairs with daddy.

Bless him for trying. And curse him for getting to leisurely drink coffee and take a shower by himself.

  4. Oh, I hope you have a better night's sleep soon. That constant nursing from a big baby is so tiring, and then for them to wake up so early - and so awake, with no hope of going back to sleep. I keep a few books in her bed to try and hope for a few extra moments of sleep; and I prod my husband's back a few extra times to tell him that the kids are ready to get up.
Sleep well - or if not, at least you have a sweet little creature to have breakfast with, even if it's only 5.30am!

  5. PS - I just looked at the time that it says I posted that comment. No, it's not 5am - I live in Australia, it's 10pm.
Though I'm sure I'll be up nice and early tomorrow anyway!

  7. Thanks for all the support ladies. Last night was much better, though I was asleep by 9:30. It seems to help to go to bed early.

  8. I remember those days. They do pass, fortunately. Until that time, wishing you as much restful sleep as you can get.

I always, always, always love comments. (Okay, except maybe not the nasty ones.)
