My Sculptures

Here are some little darlings I made back in 2001. I took a class at la escuela de artes plasticas in old san juan. They were originally supposed to be interactive. I imagined them installed in a playground, where children could constantly be painting and repainting on them.

One day before they moved forever to my cousin Jimmy's yard, they spent on the lawn outside El Morro (where the school is essentially), with paint, my great friend Amy F., and paint brushes of course. But no one stopped by. I was disappointed. And I wonder why Amy and I didn't paint some ourselves. At any rate, they have kept up well.

The holes in some of the bodies are representations of those of us who are missing something.
Now I like them because I think life begins and ends with tunnels. In fact all of time may be a circular tunnel, to my imagination.

I had to add this last little note. This morning on my friend's blog I found a link to this woman's site. Oh my god I love this. I can't think of anything more inspirational at the moment.

  1. I think they are lovely!

June can paint them, and you can share their meaning with her.

Before we finished our basement, I let the kids paint EVERYWHERE down there--and while that's not the same as your lovely artwork, they never forgot it.

I'm going to muse on the tunnels. Hard for me to wrap my head around, as I'm phobic of small spaces, caves....LOL

    You are an artist!

  3. I love the sculptures. They look so pretty in the grass. I took a sculpture class in college thinking it would be an easy A, it was THE hardest class I ever took! I really appreciate the work that goes into something like this now.

  6. I'm so glad to get to see these finally after hearing you talk about them years ago. They're beautiful Amy! And I really love the dailiness of your blog (even though I read it every so often, ind handfuls. Junie is such a beauty, and I know I've said it before but she looks just like both of you. Hooray hooray hooray! I miss you!
