A gift

Tonight Adam gave me a gift.  It was this poem to read:

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

      - William Butler Yeats, source.  Called "Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven."

And then he said it reminds him of some of my story ideas.  Which was an even nicer gift.

This poem reminds me of some seeds of thought I learned through David Whyte.  He is a poet that my dear tocaya turned me on to last summer.  She played me a section of one of his cds.  It's mesmerizing.  It's metaphysical.  It's like little pieces of life that you recognize and find yourself in.  This is the cd.  It's like whoa.

  1. Just LOVELY.
    I adore David Whyte's work. I'm trying to remember which poem it was that struck me the most years ago. I'll have to go digging now. Thank you for reminding me about him!

I always, always, always love comments. (Okay, except maybe not the nasty ones.)
