Flower Piece

I suppose the inspiration for these was tulips, though to be honest I thought of poppies a lot too.  This is officially painting number 2.  And I had the same struggles photographing it as the last piece.  There is a lot more white than you can see here.  And the painting is brighter overall.  I'll get the hang of photographing art sometime I'm sure.

I used a lot of layers to create this.  And the original underlying drawing was created out of frustration.  I had been trying a lot of different techniques in order to learn and felt like the results were overly complicated.  I wanted to make something simple instead, so I painted these bright red flowers and stems and said, bah!

The result was appealing to me though, and I began to layer it with bits of paper and different colors of paint.  Hopefully once my technique is better my work will become progressively more simple.  I think it will at least.

So here you go, these are my flowers.  What do you think?

  1. I love the simplicity that it takes from a distance, but the texture up close is awesome. I can't wait to see it in person, along with your other two masterpieces that run around and sing!

  2. You got that right Chris! I am very much looking forward to the summer visit. And visiting with your masterpiece too.

    Dad: I love YOU!

  3. I love the simple shapes and Springtime colors. I know just what you mean about the desire to "declutter" a finished piece of work--it's difficult to achieve that level of elegance. I really like the technique you described, and I think the painting is very fine indeed!
    More Amy-art, please!

  6. Thanks Em! Perhaps I can send you home from Alaska with a painting of mine. They are starting to stack up!

I always, always, always love comments. (Okay, except maybe not the nasty ones.)
